How to talk so toddler will listen

 

The way we speak to our young ones is plays a key role in their learning process. It determines their ability to listen every time we speak. Interestingly, we can nurture them to act and behave in a specific manner. The way we talk to them indicates how they should respond to us. From my research, I discovered three ways in which parents can communicate with children effectively.

They need to develop an aggressive communication style when handling the little ones. You will find that most of them yell or attack them indirectly thus demeaning them. Later, children might respond in various ways. In reaction, some of them become fearful, others yell back, or ignore parents completely.

Another form of communication is the passive form. You will notice that those parents who are soft and cautious towards their toddlers develop a good relationship with them. However, some situations might compel them to be aggressive. Finally, parents can effectively interact with their young ones in an assertive manner. Through communication, children can be confident, consistent, and positive towards parents. Here are some of the tips to improve your communication with your kids.

  • Use your kid’s name
  • You can easily grab their attention before passing across the message you wish to deliver. In most cases, you will find that young children usually concentrate on a single subject. You can call their name often until you grab their attention.

  • Use positive language
  • Try to avoid negative things throughout your communication. If you use a negative language, kids keep the image in their brains and will do the exact opposite. Instead, you are recommended to say what they need to hear. If you practice it most of the time, your children will grasp information quickly.

  • Connect with your child
  • You can use eye contact to make them understand what you want. Through eye contact, you can easily connect emotionally. I encourage you to say their names always until they grasp the content.
