The holiday season is officially underway! And as the kids get more excited by the day, you might find that they want to get involved in whichever ways they can. While you buy and wrap gifts, help the kids get involved by creating their own handmade gifts to give their loved ones this Christmas. We’ve teamed up with Babysits to bring you these 11 easy handmade Christmas gift ideas the kids will have a blast making!


Handmade Christmas Cards

A handmade card is the perfect way to let someone know you’re thinking of them this Christmas season, particularly for families who cannot be together in person. Try your hand at creating our Rudolf card, Santa card, snowman card or sparkly present card!


Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer Card

Rudolf Card

Materials

  • Brown card (dark brown & light brown)
  • Red ribbon 
  • Bells 
  • White paper (acrylic) 
  • Small red pom pom 
  • Black texta 

Instructions

  1. Fold an A4 light brown card in half to form your card. 
  2. Trace the outline of antlers onto the dark brown card. 
  3. Carefully cut out the antlers. 
  4. Glue the antlers at either side of the top of the card. 
  5. Use a compass to draw two circles for eyes. 
  6. Use black paint or a texta to colour the eyes. 
  7. Glue the small red pom pom in the centre of the nose. 
  8. Glue the eyes in place (once dry). 
  9. Cut a length of ribbon, pull the bell through and glue either end of the ribbon in place.

Snowman Christmas Card

Materials

  • Blue A4 card 
  • White sparkly paper 
  • Black card 
  • Orange paper  
  • Snowflake confetti 

Instructions

  1. Fold the A4 blue card in half. 
  2. Use a compass to draw 3 circles of equal size onto sparkly white paper and carefully cut them out. 
  3. Glue the snowflake confetti to the card. 
  4. Glue the white sparkly circles in place.
  5. Glue two small black buttons on the middle sparkly circle. 
  6. Cut a small triangle from orange paper and glue in place for the carrot nose.
  7. Use a texta to draw two eyes. 
  8. Use a texta to draw the snowman’s smile.
  9. Add his hat made from black paper, and you’re done!

Santa Christmas Card

Materials

  • Red card
  • White card 
  • Black card 
  • Gold sparkly card 
  • Glue 
  • Scissors 

Instructions

  1. Fold an A4 piece of red card in half. 
  2. Cut a length of white card to make Santa’s shirt. 
  3. Glue the length of white card lengthwise in the centre of the card. 
  4. Cut a length of black card. 
  5. Glue the length of black card horizontally at the bottom of the card. 
  6. Using a compass, draw two large circles onto black card. 
  7. Carefully cut the circles from the black card. 
  8. Glue the black circles on the front of the card. 
  9. Draw a square onto gold paper (8x8cm) and cut it out.
  10. Draw a smaller square within the gold square, 1cm less on all sides (6x6cm).
  11. Use a stencil knife to remove the smaller gold square from the larger gold square.
  12. Glue the gold square in the centre of the black belt to create a sparkly gold belt buckle.

Present Christmas card

Materials

  • Blue card 
  • Silver sparkly card 
  • Silver sparkly ribbon 
  • Glue 
  • Scissors 

Instructions

  1. Fold a piece of blue A4 card in half. 
  2. Cut two lengths of sparkly silver paper. 
  3. Glue one length vertically and the other horizontally onto the card. 
  4. Cut a thicker piece of sparkly silver paper and glue to the top of the card. 
  5. Tie a bow from sparkly silver ribbon and glue into place at the top of the card. 
  6. Voila, you’re done!

Handmade Ornaments for the Christmas Tree

A handmade Christmas tree ornament is the perfect gift for kids to give their loved ones. It’s a special memento that you can place on the tree year after year as they get older. Take a look at our snowman ornament, santa ornament and Christmas tree ornament for inspiration! 

Santa Christmas Tree Ornament

Materials

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Small white buttons 
  • Cotton wool 
  • Small white pom pom 
  • White paper
  • Red paint or red texta 
  • Black texta 
  • String or ribbon 

Instructions

  1. Paint 4 popsicle sticks red. 
  2. Glue the popsicle sticks together by cutting another popsicle stick into shorter lengths and gluing it to the back. 
  3. Glue a small square shape of white paper to the front of the popsicle sticks.
  4. Glue a red triangular piece of paper to the top of the popsicle sticks. Glue a white pom pom to the top of the triangular hat. 
  5. Glue eyes in place. Create the eyes by simply using a texta to draw two black dots onto white paper and cutting circles around the black dots. 
  6. Paint a red dot for Santa’s cold nose. 
  7. Glue three small white buttons to the front of the ornament. 
  8. Glue cotton wool around Santa’s face. 
  9. Glue either ends of a length of string to the back of the ornament, wait for it to dry, and it’s ready to hang on the Christmas tree!

Snowman Christmas Tree Ornament 

Materials

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Orange paper
  • Black paint
  • White paper
  • Sparkly paper
  • Glue
  • Black texta
  • Small buttons
  • String or ribbon 

Instructions

  1. Paint 4 popsicle sticks white. 
  2. Glue them together by cutting another popsicle stick into thirds and gluing two of the shorter pieces to the back of the 4 popsicle sticks.
  3. Paint the remaining third of a popsicle stick black and glue at an angle at the top of the ornament. 
  4. Paint the remainder of the ornament black to create the snowman’s tophat. 
  5. Cut two small lengths of sparkly paper and glue in place as a scarf. 
  6. Glue two eyes in place. Create the eyes by drawing two black dots onto white paper and cutting circles around the black dots. 
  7. Cut a triangle from orange paper and glue in place as a carrot-nose. 
  8. Glue two small black buttons in place. 
  9. Cut a length of string or ribbon and glue either end to the back of the ornament. Wait for it to dry and hang it on the tree!

Christmas Tree Ornament 

 Materials 

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Paint (blue)
  • Glue
  • Sparkly paper
  • Gems
  • Ribbon or string 

Instructions 

  1. Paint 3 popsicle sticks blue (one popsicle stick should be slightly shorter than the other two). 
  2. Glue the popsicle sticks together to form a triangle. 
  3. Cut a square from sparkly paper and glue it to the base of the tree. 
  4. Cut a star from sparkly paper and glue it to the top of the tree. 
  5. Glue gems along the tree. 
  6. Glue either end of a length of string to the back of the Christmas tree ornament, wait for it to dry, and it’s ready to be given as a gift!

Toilet Paper Roll Christmas Craft

A simple yet effective way to create a fun and cozy gift is to recycle toilet paper rolls into cute crafts to give to your friends and family. Kids will have a ball creating these crafts to wrap for their sister, grandma, cousin or friend at preschool!

Snowman made from toilet paper roll 

Materials

  • Empty toilet paper roll 
  • White paint 
  • Two small buttons 
  • Sparkly paper (or felt paper)
  • Orange paper 
  • Black texta

Instructions

  1. Paint a toilet paper roll white. 
  2. Draw two black dots onto white paper and carefully cut circles around the black dots to create eyes. 
  3. Glue the eyes in place. 
  4. Cut a thin length of sparkly paper and wrap it around the toilet paper roll to create a scarf for your snowman. 
  5. Glue two small buttons to the front of the snowman. 
  6. Cut a triangular shape from orange paper and glue in place as the carrot-nose.

Materials

  • 2 empty toilet paper rolls
  • Brown felt paper 
  • Small red pom pom 
  • White card
  • Brown paint 
  • Stapler
  • Glue 
  • Black texta

Instructions

  1. Glue brown felt paper to the toilet paper roll. 
  2. Glue a small red pom pom to the toilet paper roll to create Rudolph’s red nose.
  3. Glue eyes in place. 
  4. Cut another toilet paper roll into vertical strips and paint the strips brown to create antlers. 
  5. Once dry, staple the antlers to the top of the toilet paper roll. 
  6. Bend the antlers, and you’re done!

Materials

  • Toilet paper roll 
  • “Skin” colour paint of your choice
  • Sparkly paper
  • Red and blue pom poms
  • Cotton wool
  • Small buttons 
  • Glue 
  • Texta 
  • White paper 

Instructions

  1. Paint ⅓ of your toilet paper roll in a “skin” colour of your choice. 
  2. Wrap a length of sparkly paper around the toilet paper roll. 
  3. Glue eyes and a red pom pom for the face. 
  4. Glue two small buttons to the front of the toilet paper roll.
  5. Push cotton wool into the top of the toilet paper roll for hair. 
  6. Glue a small blue pom pom to the top of the cotton wool.

Materials

  • 2 toilet paper rolls
  • “Skin” colour paint of your choice
  • Red felt paper
  • Small red and white pom poms
  • White paper
  • Black texta
  • Glue
  • 2 small buttons
  • Cotton wool

Instructions

  1. Paint ⅓ of the toilet paper roll in a “skin” colour of your choice. 
  2. Wrap red felt paper around the toilet paper roll. 
  3. Glue a small red pom pom onto the toilet paper roll as a nose. 
  4. Glue eyes in place. 
  5. Glue two small white buttons onto the red felt paper. 
  6. Glue cotton wool around Santa’s face for a beard. 
  7. Cut a rectangular shape from a separate toilet paper roll and cut a piece of red felt paper of equal length and size.
  8. Glue them together and fold to create a cone shaped hat. Glue a white pom pom to the top of the hat.  
  9. Push the hat into the top of the toilet paper roll.
